The Infinitive

Every German verb has a basic form called the infinitive.

You can recognize the infinitive by its ending "-en" (or sometimes "-n").

Conjugation

When conjugating a verb, each personal pronoun gets a specific verb ending (see table).

Examples
  • Ich komme nach Hause. (I come home.)
  • Sie wohnt in Italien. (She lives in Italy.)
  • Wir studieren Mathe. (We study math.)
  • Du lernst Deutsch. (You learn German.)
  • Er spielt Fußball. (He plays football.)
  • Ihr arbeitet heute. (You all work today.)

du kaufst machst kommst lernst wohnst
er/ sie/ es kauft macht kommt lernt wohnt
Plural:

ihr kauft macht kommt lernt wohnt
sie (pl) / Sie kaufen machen kommen lernen wohnen
